Hip Replacements That Don’t Work

After pain and problems you have finally decided to undergo hip replacement surgery. In fact, you have opted to have a total hip replacement because of serious osteoarthritis, fractures, dislocations, rheumatoid arthritis or even avascular necrosis.

Now you are still having problems and pain, why?

Recent evidence reveals that many of the 250,000 hip replacements that are performed each year in this country may subject the patient to added risk and problems of failure – especially in the “metal on metal” implants that account for about one-third of all hip replacements.

A recent New York Times article reveals that many of these devices from the manufacturer’s Zimmer and DePuy have begun to wear down in away that causes metal debris “that can touch off inflammatory reactions that cause pain in the groin, death of tissue in the hip joint and loss of surrounding bone.” (Concerns over Metal on Metal hip implants, NY Times 2010)

A Hip Replacement should normally last about 15 years. However, many of the questionable implants from Zimmer and DePuy fail or cause signficant pain within the first two years after the implant.
